[1] The original commitment date + 2-3 days late is usually acceptable.  If it goes beyond 1 week, then we'd ask you to send the people who pre-ordered an email indicating the lateness.  As long as the products are anticipated within a reasonable accuracy, we will process the orders around the original ship date.  It it goes beyond a week tardiness, we have to evaluate the schedule with your manufacturer and the pre-orders will be process contingent on the new schedule.

Hi JC:

Well, it looks like our production schedule on the DVD has fallen a day or two behind. We're paying rush fees, but it looks like as it stands today, the earliest we'd have the DVDs to you will be on MM/DD at the earliest.

A follow-up note:

If pre-orders are not processed within the authorization period, then it expires, and the credit card doesn't go through.  Sales may be lost as a result.  So it's important to have a reasonable schedule for the launch date and not be overly aggressive.
